Sollux (The Mage of Doom) clearly understands and knows doom. He hears "voices of the doomed", and prophecies to his friends about how they and the universe are doomed. Doom is intrinsic to Sollux's character, and he's almost always referencing this doom. Maybe he kind of likes having so much Doom to complain about?

The Mage is thought by some (including me) to be the active counterpart to the Seer (assuming Seer is a passive class.) This would mean that a mage would be "one who procures knowledge of (aspect) or from (aspect) to benefit themselves." Doom is all about pain, death, sacrifice, labor and general suffering.

Basically, the answer is that we've seen absolutely nothing in canon that can be exclusively confirmed as a god tier power from any Mage in Canon, and all the other posts saying that It's the Seer's counterpart ir anything else is purely speculation.
